How important is technique

Well, Here is Crossfit Endurance's breakdown of Crossfit Hierarchy: Technique, intensity, then finally volume. Our program is higher volume than most. Its well thought out programming, however, everything is scalable to your technique. This was in a post recently; it is extremely important to maintain technique. Important enough that during a WOD there is absolutely no justification for sacrificing technique for a couple extra reps. When your tired its even more important. We teach and stress technique because it is what keeps us safe. Going for that one extra rep with poor technique means mechanical advantage is lost. When you fight that, especially tired, you will get injured. IT IS NOT A MATTER OF IF IT IS A MATTER OF WHEN....

Technique and pink shorts

At first sight you might say,"what the hell do pink shorts have to do with this. Well, I am glad you asked. It is something that I just want to do. The reason is: I like to have fun. When we have fun in our lifting I feel we perform at a higher level. I took an ethics class where I was introduced to Friedrich Nietzche. According to Nietzche, we are on our way to becoming super humans(there is way more to this than I am putting in here) in our intelligence and strength. Maybe, thats out there a bit, but it makes me think. He says we can make this happen  by avoiding mediocrity. Society is turning us away from our instincts, and it is dangerous for the human race to have the idea that if circumstances/choices have made it seem impossible to achieve anything, we must just accept that. For those of you who know me, and my pink shorts; you know I am living proof that this is a bullshit way to live.

Now you might say, "Brandon, I thought this was technique revelation." I'll respond this way, "if our mindset wasn't important, we wouldn't have one." Our mental focus is as much a part of technique as keeping your core tight.

correction

I meant to type Front Wheel Drive*** where it says Front Rear Drive

Technique

First post ever.... Hmm, where to begin? Well, we are all adults, so what ill say to that is because of the wide variety of movements it is difficult to always have proper technique. Something I picked up from Kelly Starret is when he referred to us, as humans, as being front rear drive. I believe his point in saying this is that we are not front wheel drive, or rear wheel drive. We are all wheel drive. A crossfitter is the Suburu WRX Version of the human world. For functionality in all circumstances what would you prefer? A front wheel drive car like a honda civic, a dodge viper(tons of power but if it rains a huge reduction in speed is necessary), or suburu Wrx Sti which can hold its own on the road while dominating off the road. As a generalist which would you prefer? Even further what if you developed these awesome, and powerful, different parts but never put them together to use them as a whole car(I will refer to "Globo gyms" as parts stores)?

How do we accomplish this? Mobility, application of mobility in technique, then if the mobility is their we must then find balance(if it's not already there). Once we get balance movements become mechanically sound, and when that happens the chance of injury is decreased(having mechanical advantage makes the movements easier, therefore, the easier the movement feels the better the technique is). Ask your coach next time...... What I am getting at is this is the downfall of crossfit. This is why so many gyms get poor reviews. Funny, we call everyone athletes, but if that is so we must educate everyone to an athlete's level if not further.
